See it. Own it. Solve it. Do it.

Overseeing the company, Dustin Esselman, Chief Information Officer, conveys that every day, when it comes to providing our partners with cutting-edge innovations and actionable insights that will lead to greater results and a healthier tomorrow, "Scrip Companies" is the clear choice. The Scrip Companies is a PE-backed company owned by Centre Lane Partners. Scrip has five core brands in the healthcare marketplace: Scrip Hessco, which aims to provide supplies and equipment for the chiropractic industry; Massage Warehouse, which aims to provide supplies and equipment for the massage industry; and Advantage Medical, which aims to provide supplies and equipment for physical therapy. There is BodyWorkMall for corporate massage chains, and then Allegro Medical for home health supplies.

I’ve always been attracted to business and to be a disruptor within it, being different, always challenging the status quo. The businesses I’ve been involved in over my career has challenged me over the years both technically and personally, creating a quick environment of growth. Web Technology, the business of engaging our audiences and helping our customers has become a passion.

I’m a leader who is hands-on and leads by example, and my team is effective when they are given the freedom to find creative solutions to issues that arise. Whether it's optimizing returns processing inside our ERP and business processes or resolving a complex online request for the marketing team on behalf of our clients, we're a team that adheres to the OZ Principle—See it. Own it. Solve it. Do it. As a PE-backed company, we’re about results, specifically EBITDA results. If goals are reached, we all win together, and we don't forget to enjoy the little things along the way.

My career has been successful due to a lot of great mentors and bosses over my career, says Esselman. Esselman got into IT when in junior high he had hacked into the computer systems at school and then sold tests then then acquired – one could say Esselman has always been an entrepreneur. After facing expulsion, the school IT director put Esselman to work. Esselman was building out teacher workstations & computer labs in the district as a freshman and even co-taught a class to upperclassmen. When he was 16, the IT director and a school board member arranged a paid co-op internship at Scot Forge, the local manufacturing company in his hometown. It’s no wonder now he's leading ecommerce and web integrations at 32. Esselman was also his hometown's youngest school board member, his career has soared after Scot Forge.

At Quest Products he deployed NetSuite ERP and RF-Smart WMS within a year and at the same time. Esselman then went on to EBSCO Industries Luxor and now at Scrip Companies. At Scrip Companies, Esselman assessed the company's web platforms to ensure a fast, easy transaction, using e-commerce tactics he learned at EBSCO’s Luxor, where he increased revenues to over $100 million. Esselman hosted and managed five Scrip websites using Magento. His Magento 2 project raised Scrip's conversions by 6.7% and 10.2%. Esselman rethinks the front-end sales engine to "address launch difficulties." Amazon's marketing is unmatched. Esselman helped Luxor brands Stand Steady and Stand Up Desk Store achieve sales.

Everyone is on Amazon Prime and we need to be in that space as well. Amazon's technology is so futuristic with its warehousing and order fulfillment, making our own shipping solutions more difficult; if you can’t beat them – join them.

Esselman inherited a task to reverse one web brand's sales slump. As part of a three-month technology strategy to connect technology with business needs, he indexed catalogue information to help customers find goods and redesigned the site search.

We've long provided items and services to the majority of our clients. "Our web platform and customer customization are industry-leading," says Esselman. Our E-Purch 360 software allows regional clinics autonomy in product ordering and a company-wide purchase clearance process, while simplifying centralized invoicing for organizations with several sites monitored by a central office. He adds that we are also doing serious work in business analytics. We have built a number of reporting tools in Microsoft PowerBI.

"We're product experts and a one-stop shop for all your supply and equipment needs," adds Esselman. We partner with large organizations and will build out their clinics for them and install everything. We have a very experienced customer service team that you can call and actually talk about products with — something you can’t get from Amazon.

As we continue to dive into more things digital, I see the future at Scrip being even easier to order from us and work with us. The things we’re gearing up for are a simpler checkout, faster delivery times, and offering a tailored experience to each of our customers.

Esselman offers advice for future entrepreneurs and stresses the importance of being like a sponge – soaking up all the knowledge of the people you work with, understanding what they do and why, and applying the things you know about the company and how it runs from order to cash in on the moving value you can bring to the organization. Roll up your sleeves and follow the OZ principle—See it. Own it. Solve it. Do it.

Esselman lives by the maxim "leave everything better than you found it" and feels he's doing that at Scrip.
